The economics minister Guy Parmelin says those who have been the victim of a very common parcel fraud should not pay debt collectors.
It’s a scam that’s fairly unique to Switzerland.
Many e-commerce companies allow the option of delivering the goods with an invoice to pay later.
Scammers order goods to an address they know that can access the mail box, take the goods and leave the bill for the addressee.
There were around a thousand victims last year in the French speaking part of the country alone – according to RTS television.
Parmelin says victims should not pay. They should file a police report and contact the ombudsman for e-commerce.
Many companies are trying to fight against the scammers by using algorithms to detect fraudulent orders.
