Mountain attraction record broken

Vaud's Glacier 3000 has broken its all-time attendance record before its financial year even closes, with roughly 265,000 visitors expected — up two-thirds in a decade

For the first time, walkers will outnumber skiers at the alpine site above Les Diablerets, making up about 52% of annual entries.

Attractions such as the Peak Walk, the Alpine Coaster and mountain-top dining are drawing a broader summer and winter crowd.

The Magic Pass has also lifted footfall, with Gstaad's addition pushing pass-holder visits from 70,000 to 100,000 last season.

Summer numbers dropped 12% year-on-year, however, which the station blames on falling demand from the Middle East and Asia.
