The federal government is looking to fight noise pollution caused by cars and motorcycles.
It’s issued a discussion document which suggests that those convicted to being a noise nuisance could be fined – or even have their licence withdrawn.
Such offences could cover driving in an excessive noisy manner, unnecessary trips along the same road and generating backfires.
Motorcycles are also targeted. Bikers making illegal modifications could find themselves having to take their machine in for a check up several times a year.
Some members of the right-wing Swiss People’s Party say the ideas are too extreme.
