Last Friday’s strike by baggage handlers at Zurich airport has paid off – but they will still lose their jobs.
Workers at Airline Assistance Switzerland staged a warning strike at Zurich Airport, fearing the company’s closure.
On Wednesday, their worst fears were confirmed. The company is with all 220 workers losing their jobs.
Initially, management refused to negotiate a redundancy plan, prompting the strike.
But the show of unity forced managers to come to the table. A deal was reached securing severance payments for all affected staff.
Union leaders stress that without the strike, there would have been no severance cash.
