Hottest summer ever

MétéoSuisse has confirmed that summer 2026 was the hottest ever recorded in Switzerland

The national average of 17.2°C beat the 2003 record by 0.4 degrees, and ran 3.4 degrees above the 1991-2020 reference.

The north-west was hit hardest, running four degrees above the norm, and Basel-Binningen tied the northern-Alps heat record on 30 July at 39.7°C.

Thirty weather stations set new all-time highs this summer, with several places notching close to two extra weeks of tropical days.

Tropical nights nationwide reached 50, eight more than in the previous 2003 record.
