Worries over Geneva fan zone

Qatar 2022

There are still questions over the World Cup Fan Zone due to be set up on the Plainpalais in Geneva.

The boss of the company which will be running the event, Frédéric Hohl, says the reaction from some members of the public makes him worried about the safety of the event.

He’s also launched legal action against one social media user who described him and his company as murderers and collaborators to a fascist regime.

The comments refer to allegations many workers who built the stadiums in Qatar died due to poor working conditions and the general attitude to minorities in the Gulf state.

He says he will make a decision in the next week or so on whether to cancel the Zone.
