Swiss jobs to go at Credit Suisse before Christmas

Credit Suisse

It will be a worrying end of year for many Credit Suisse workers as the bank says it will start sacking staff in the next few weeks.

The bank has already announced thousands of cuts across the world in the next 2 years – it hopes most can be achieved voluntarily.

But 540 Swiss based positions will go before Christmas as well as around a further 2,000 globally.

To counter criticism the bank has received for allowing the Saudi National Bank to take a large stake – the bank's boss, Ulrich Körner, told the NZZ newspaper that shareholders do not have influence on the direction of the bank or is ethical principles.
