Swiss prosecutors have confirmed they plan to appeal against the recent acquittal of the former top football bosses, Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini.
In July, the country’s highest court – the Federal Criminal Court – cleared the two of corruption charges.
Judges said the claim there was a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ for FIFA – then being run by Blatter – to pay Platini, then in charge of UEFA, CHF 2m for consultancy work – was credible.
Prosecutors said after the ruling that they will wait until the written judgement before making a decision on whether to appeal or not.
The Office of the Attorney General has confirmed it has filed an appeal with the Appeals Chamber of the Federal Court and is asking for the first-instance judgement to be set aside.
