New vaccine from today

The autumn vaccine booster programme starts today in Geneva. The new jab from Moderna is designed to be more effective against the Omicron BA.1 variant – but we are now on BA.5.

It will still protect against the original covid strain.

Experts say it’s too early to tell how effective against the Omicron variant it will be as there have not been any large-scale trials. That’s because its very hard to find anyone who hasn’t already been exposed to the virus - either by vaccination or infection.

While those over 65 or at risk should get the new vaccination as soon as possible, anyone who had their last vaccine or was infected more than 4 months ago is eligible.
