The federal government has announced a series of plans to alleviate the traffic difficulties due to the closure of a section of the A13 autoroute after a landslide washed out a 200 metre section.
The planned overnight closures of the Gotthard Tunnel have been lifted, there will be more trains – including freight services – running north/south across the country.
The Federal Roads Office says while there’ll be no general lifting of the ban on trucks running overnight and on Sundays – there could be some localised relaxations of the rule.
At a press conference, the federal councillor, Albert Rösti, urges people to take public transport where possible.
