A cross-party group led by the Young Liberals has launched a federal initiative aimed at curbing the growth of the federal administration.
Backed by members of the FDP, Green Liberals, Centre and SVP, the proposal seeks to introduce a “brake” on administrative spending.
The plan would tie personnel costs to average wage growth, meaning staffing and salary increases could not outpace incomes unless offset elsewhere.
Supporters say federal staffing and related costs have risen sharply in recent years, warning of an expanding bureaucracy.
Critics argue such limits could reduce flexibility in responding to crises. The initiative needs 100,000 signatures to force it to a vote.
