Around 200 students blocked Annecy's lycée Charles-Baudelaire yesterday morning, the latest flare-up in a wave of French school protests over learning conditions
Protesters barricaded both entrances with bins, bike racks and construction barriers once classmates had come out of early-morning lessons.
Firefighters were called to put out a burning bin pushed under a tree in the car park, while police watched from a distance.
The main entrance remains blocked though the crowd has since dispersed for lunch.
A national day of action is planned for tomorrow, and the disruption reaches well beyond Haute-Savoie — Annecy's schools are a daily destination for many families on the Swiss side of the border.
