Comparison site Comparis forecasts an average increase of 3.7% for next year. It will still be painful for households, but notably below the steep rises seen in recent years.

The company says strong investment returns have helped stabilize the outlook. But it warns global economic uncertainty could quickly change the picture again, since insurers also rely heavily on financial market performance.
