Green Party calls for end to fossil fuels

The Green Party is calling for a rapid phase-out of fossil fuels, after delegates approved a new resolution at a meeting in canton Basel-Country over the weekend.

The plan demands a clear roadmap to end fossil fuel use, alongside what the party describes as a “socially just” transition that leaves no one behind.

The Greens also backed a proposal to tax airline tickets and boost rail travel, aimed at cutting air traffic.

Party president Lisa Mazzone warned fossil fuels are fuelling global conflict, insisting they have “no future.”
