Germany criticizes Switzerland for migrant policy

Germany is criticising Switzerland for simply letting migrants travel though the country.

It says that’s a breach of the EU’s Dublin Agreement, which Switzerland does have to uphold through its membership of the Schengen passport free zone.

But the State Secretariat for Migration rejects the allegation. A spokesman told the NZZ newspaper that no laws are being broken and there’s no legal basis to stop people from travelling through the country.

Around 700 migrants arrive every week at eastern borders and wish to continue their journey.

Most do not want to stop in Switzerland, but continue to France, Germany or the UK.
