Geneva cyclists want more secure chaining points

Cyclists in Geneva are angry that many places where they used to be able to chain their bikes have disappeared.

Since the city has stopped motorcycles from parking on sidewalks – many places where cyclists could have secured their bikes have been removed to make space for the motorbikes.

Even where they do exist, they’re not fit for purpose. A series of secure points have been set up in Les Eaux-Vives. But they’ve been designed to be removed if the space is needed for occasional events. But that means they’re easily dismantled so bikes have been stolen even if chained up.

Bikes are more likely to be stolen than motorized vehicles. Police figures show last year 2,700 bikes were taken and just over 1,000 motor vehicles.
