Fireworks will be banned in publicly accessible spaces across Switzerland from tomorrow.
The measure was agreed by all 26 cantons following safety concerns - with the New Year’s fire in Crans-Montana being a driving force.
Authorities say the move is temporary, as a full revision of national fire safety rules is still being prepared, with more than 11,000 responses to a public consultation under review.
The stricter regulations are expected to come into force in 2027, but officials say action is needed now to reduce risks.
