Prisoner escapes from ambulance

A man has escaped from custody in Geneva after jumping from a moving ambulance during a prison transfer.

The inmate, in his twenties, was being transported from La Brenaz prison to the Geneva University Hospital when he fled on Monday.

No one was injured in the incident, but the man, who is described as violent, remains on the run.

An investigation has been launched by the police oversight body to determine how the escape happened.

The case has also raised fresh questions about security during prisoner transfers, following a similar incident in 2016.

Police are continuing their search.
