Faulty parachute caused crash

Air crash investigators have published their preliminary findings on why a plane carrying skydivers crashed in canton Soloturn in February.

The plane hit the ground head on and the pilot was killed. One parachutist was slightly injured, the other 10 landed safely.

Investigators say they believe a reserve parachute of one of the jumpers opened prematurely. The skydiver then hit the tail of the plane, causing it to be torn off.

Investigators point out the pilot did not have a parachute.

The plane and the parachutists were all members of the local Grenchen Skydiving Club.
