EVs make further gains - but still behind Europe

While overall car registrations in Switzerland have been falling for six years, electric and hybrid vehicles are on the rise.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, registrations of fully electric cars rose by more than 15 percent in 2025, and hybrids by 26 percent.

Vehicles that can be charged from the grid now account for nearly 34 percent of new registrations.

Switzerland lags behind the rest of Europe for passenger cars, but leads Europe in electric heavy goods vehicles, helped by fee exemptions.
