Crans-Montana head faces charges

The criminal investigation into the deadly bar fire in Crans-Montana has been widened to include the comune’s president, Nicolas Féraud.

Valais prosecutors confirmed the move last week as they continue to examine the tragedy which left 41 people dead and 115 injured.

Four other current and former municipal officials are also now under investigation for negligent arson, homicide and grievous bodily harm.

Authorities say the probe will look at fire-safety oversight, after the municipality acknowledged inspections at the bar had not been carried out since 2019.
