CHF 500 to give up your car

A new program in canton Geneva is encouraging residents to give up their cars for a month and try more sustainable ways of getting around.

The Déclic Mobilité initiative, run by the Modus Foundation, offers volunteers a CHF 500 voucher to test alternatives such as public transport passes, bike rentals, or car-sharing services.

Participants agree to leave their cars at home during the trial period.

Organisers say the aim is to change travel habits, while also collecting anonymised mobility data for research. After a pilot last year with 72 households in the city of Geneva, the program has now been expanded to the entire canton, including rural areas.
