The federal weather service is warning that government budget cuts risk making our forecasts less accurate.
Speaking to the Blick newspaper, MétéoSuisse director Stefan Uhlenbrook says the "Savings Plan 27" is hitting the agency hard and threatens the renewal of its weather radar network.
Public safety is not at risk, he says, but operational risks are climbing, and outdated radars could mean less reliable severe-weather warnings.
MétéoSuisse currently reaches over 86% accuracy on storm forecasts.
Uhlenbrook hopes the ongoing heatwave will strengthen political appetite to invest in climate monitoring.
