Fight against 'No to 10m' vote begins

Now last weekend's votes are behind us - already eyes are looking towards the next set in June.

On the ballot over the summer is the Swiss People's Party initiative - no to 10 Million. It aims to force the government to bring in harsh immigration controls if the population hits 9 and a half million.

The fight has begun - a citizens committee in Bern, with representatives from the centre right and the left, are warning if the vote passes it will herald years of chaos.

The committee says it will bring in a controlled economy as it would mean the end to free movement meaning companies and state services will not be able to hire who they’d like and would have to plead to the authorities every time.
It would also undermine agreements with the EU.

Currently polls suggest the initiative has broad support - but now those against it are getting ready for a fight.
