Cantons call on early nightclub openings

Cantons are calling for tests to see if it will be soon safe to open nightclubs.

The government has already announced a plan to allow large scale gatherings – 3,000 from June and then 10,000 from September.

In preparation of the change, some tests are being planned for gatherings of around 600 people to check transmission risks.
But these tests are not suitable for nightclubs.

The Conference of Cantonal Health Directors wants to allow some nightclubs to open under test conditions for a more accurate picture of the situation.

While the cantons are generally supportive of the government’s plan, some want a faster re-opening to reflect the success of the vaccine roll out.
