The richest man in Switzerland is… German

Switzerland’s most wealthy resident is a German-born man who has a fortune of 36 billion francs.

According to the SonntagsZeitung Sunday paper, 85-year-old Klaus-Michael Kühne, the owner of the logistics company Kühne + Nagel, is the richest person in the country.

The paper cites rich-list rankings by the Forbes magazine.

Mr Kühne is originally from Hamburg and has lived with his wife in Schindellegi in the canton of Schwyz since 1975.

He made his fortune with the logistics company Kühne + Nagel, founded by his grandfather in 1890. The company has seen profits rise since the Covid-19 pandemic, which led to a boom in logistics around the world.

Mr Kühne is also a major shareholder in the Lufthansa group, the shipping company Hapag Lloyd and the German football club Hamburger SV.
