Foreign ministry officials have confirmed they will meet members of a Taliban delegation which is currently in Geneva.
The Swiss mission to the UN in Geneva says the meeting is likely to take place later this week. The mission stresses the meeting does not provide legitimacy or recognition of the current regime in Afghanistan.
The delegation was invited to Geneva by the NGO, Geneva Call, which urges respect for humanitarian law by armed non-state actors.
Taliban members are also expected to meet with the ICRC while in the city.
There are warnings from NGOs of a humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan, unless sanctions are lifted against the Taliban.
