A 23-year-old Swiss woman has been in US immigration detention since Friday, after ICE agents stopped her at Dallas airport on her way to a family gathering
The Zurich native came to the United States as an au pair in 2023 and married an American citizen last year; her Green Card application is still pending, and her visa expired this month.
Swiss consular staff in Atlanta are in contact with her family, but the foreign ministry cannot secure her release or intervene in US proceedings.
Her relatives say she has been shackled, moved between detention centres in Oklahoma and Texas, and is now sharing a cell with 70 other women.
Her likely route home is voluntary departure — which carries a multi-year US entry ban.
