Russian news says Switzerland facing famine

Viktoria Petrowa from the news channel 'Life'

Russian news outlets are suggesting the government here is advising people on how to prepare for winter and the country will have power cuts, limited water and is even facing famine.

The story comes from a Russian woman who describes herself as a journalist and lives in Lausanne.

On a video link, Viktoria Petrowa told the Russian news outlet, ‘Life’, that Swiss citizens have been given a pamphlet with instructions on how to survive the winter.

The document she’s holding up has been published by the government – but several years ago – and simply gives some ideas on what food to have stored in case of a national emergency.

It points out it’s a good idea to have some cash on hand in case power cuts means electronic payment systems fail.

The government says the pamphlet has not been sent to households and is not linked to any specific emergency.

Petrowka is not responding to media requests for comment.
