Protestors against a new shopping mall in neighbouring France gathered in St Genis on Saturday calling on the new project, called OPEN, to be stopped.
Work has started on the 40,000 square meter mall which is only just a few minutes away from the Geneva border.
Around 200 called for the work to end, claiming it will harm the local water tables and endanger wildlife.
Among the protestors, was the former Geneva mayor, Rémy Pagani and several members of the Geneva Green Party.
There are legal appeals against the project, claiming the environmental impact has not been sufficiently assessed.
