Police train for terror attack at stadium

Stade de Genève

The Stade de Genève was swarming with armed police officers and soldiers yesterday, together with other emergency responders.

It was all part of an exercise ahead of the Women’s Euro Football tournament over the summer.

In all, around 400 prepared for a scenario of a crazed gunman, a drone full of explosives, or a riot.

There were efforts made to make it as realistic as possible – even down to the game. It was a Switzerland – England match at the start of the second half.

The police pointed out they’re taking a different approach to controlling the international tournament than other matches.

Normally, they deal with confrontational fans, in this instance, they’re training for an attack from an outside force.
