The so called ‘morning after pill’ will continue to be sold only in pharmacies.
The makers of the drug had pushed to allow it to be sold in drug stores, which they say would improve its availability.
But the regulator Swissmedic argued that it should only be sold in pharmacies and only after a consultation with a pharmacist – as is the case now.
A prescription from a doctor is not required.
Swissmedic says the ruling is ‘logical’ – but the Swiss Association of Drug Stores says it’s not surprised, but regrets the decision.
