The first plans on how Geneva’s main train station will look after redevelopment have been released.
Cornavin needs to be extended – two new main line tracks will be built underground and the section for trains leaving for France will also be renovated.
When completed, there will be more frequent services, increased shopping areas and more space for passengers. The project will cost CHF 2bn, mainly paid for by the Confederation.
The main work won’t start until 2029 – but there will be preparatory work beforehand. The first stage is the need to change the points on the lines – and that will be done next month. The station will be completely closed to traffic from Saturday November 23rd at 7pm to the next day at 3pm.
Replacement buses will be running.
