Major traffic problems in Geneva this summer

Drivers are being advised to think of other ways to get around Geneva this summer as major road works on the Mont Blanc bridge will cut capacity and lead to major delays.

It won’t be short lived either. Work will start on Monday 31 of this month – and go on until mid-September.

The canton says the bridge needs major renovation work. The last time it had a serious makeover was in 1970.

At the same time, the road surface will be replaced with new anti-noise coating and the cycle lanes will be upgraded.

Work will continue throughout the summer. It will be possible to drive across – the bridge won’t be completely closed, except for occasional night time work and possibly some weekends.

Diversions will be put up which will also affect public transport.

But the message from the canton is clear: leave the car at home.
