Following a series of speed checks in Geneva, police have seized six e-scooters that can travel much faster than the legal limit.
A police spokesperson said yesterday that speed checks were carried out in the centre of Geneva over the weekend, by the lake, at the Quai du Mont-Blanc and near Baby-Plage.
Speed guns measured 62 e-scooters that were in those areas and found that six of them were capable of exceeding 35 kilometres per hour, including one e-vehicle that could travel at 56 km per hour - which is far too powerful under Switzerland’s traffic regulations.
In Switzerland, the maximum authorized speed for e-scooters is 20 kilometres per hour. They are not allowed on pavements and drivers must not allow anyone else on the vehicles.
Police also recommend that users always wear a helmet.
