Covid sceptic protestors gathered outside a nursing home in canton Obwalden after nine residents died within three weeks.
Police are investigating following allegations staff at the home in Giswil were told not to wear masks, which is against the law, and a report in the Luzerner Zeitung suggests security guards on duty over the summer were told to tell visitors that they shouldn’t wear a mask.
The protestors say they were outside to mourn the dead, but one told the Blick newspaper its worse the residents didn’t see the staff smile than dying of Covid.
The managing director of the home, Daniel Kiefer, says the mask rules were recommendations – but that’s not true. The law mandating mask-wearing in care homes remains in place in Obwalden.
