Calls to reinstate domestic violence cash

Hotel de Ville, Geneva

Geneva politicians are urging the cantonal government to rethink planned cuts to projects tackling domestic violence.

A motion from the Greens, Socialists and the Geneva Citizens’ Movement calls for the restoration of one million francs in funding for associations.
The cash was in the 2025 budget but removed from the draft 2026 plan.

Green MP Emilie Fernandez says it makes little sense to cut support when combating domestic and gender-based violence is a government priority.
Support groups warn the impact could be immediate.

The F-Information centre says dozens of women could lose help, while the Arabelle shelter fears a mobile prevention team may have to stop its work.
