Right-wing politicians in Geneva want to exempt summer jobs for young people from minimum wage regulations.
They claim the current rate of CHF 24.32 is too high for many employers.
A bill has been tabled in the Grand Council and backed by the Swiss People’s Party and the Liberals.
But unions are furious, they say it’s unacceptable to cut wages just because it’s summer.
But backers say for young people the idea of a summer job is just to make some extra pocket money while gaining some work experience.
