Arctic temperatures this weekend

The country was gripped by arctic cold weather over the weekend. The coldest place was on the Glattalp in canton Schwyz on Sunday. Sat 4am the temperatures hit a low of minus 44.4 degrees.

But it won’t be counted as a record low as the thermometer is not 2 meters above ground due to the deep snow – so it can’t be considered a formal reading.

The record remains at La Brévine at minus 41.8 degrees in 2012.

Forecasters expect temperatures to start to rise significantly from tomorrow.
