Fuel prices close to record high

Swiss fuel prices are closing in on the 2022 record, with the TCS reporting petrol at CHF 2.05 a litre and diesel at CHF 2.30

Diesel is now just ten cents off its all-time high, and the record could be matched or passed if Middle East tensions and drought both worsen.

Around 10% of the world's oil transits the Bab el-Mandeb strait, now largely under Houthi control.

Low Rhine water levels are adding another fifteen cents a litre on their own, with Rotterdam-to-Basel freight rates up more than 800%.

Diesel is under added pressure as heating oil demand rises ahead of winter.
