Yes to buying Parc Masset in Geneva

Campaign poster

City of Geneva voters have approved the city’s purchase of the 35,000-square-meter estate once owned by Titeuf creator Zep.

The CHF 22m acquisition passed Sunday with 52.5% support, despite a right-wing referendum challenging the deal.

City officials say the goal is to create much-needed green space in one of Geneva’s most densely populated areas.

Planning work begins immediately, but the new public park won’t open for at least two years.

As for the villa itself, officials say its future use is wide open, from a heritage center to a community space, with decisions to be made in consultation with local residents.

Detractors warn the running cost will be around CHF 2 or 3m a year.
