A woman who gave birth to a handicapped child in 2007 due to acne medication has lost her case at the Federal Court.
The woman was 18 when she got pregnant while taking the medication. She argued the doctor didn’t warn her about the dangers.
But the potential problems are well known and judges were unconvinced she wasn’t told. It’s also normal procedure that a pregnancy test is taken before being given the drug.
The child is now 15 years old, cannot speak and has learning difficulties.
Medical experts convinced the court all normal precautions had been taken.
