Petition for quiet cars on trains

A woman from Biel in canton Bern has launched an online petition calling for quiet carriages in second class on Swiss trains.

According to Le Journal du Jura, Myriam Wahli questions why designated quiet zones are currently reserved for first-class passengers.

She argues that noise is a public health issue, noting that more than one million people travel by train each day.

Wahli says quieter spaces would particularly help people with invisible disabilities.

Swiss Federal Railways say a trial in 2008 and 2009 failed due to low demand and tensions during ticket checks.
