An elderly woman and a child had a narrow escape when the car they were in was destroyed by a train on a level crossing in Buchs in canton Sankt Gallen.
The 83-year-old woman stopped in the middle of the crossing while a train approached. She and the child managed to get away from the car before the train hit.
Why she stopped is under investigation.
The car, a Toyota Yaris, was dragged several hundred meters by the train.
The occupants escaped unharmed.
