Twint fraudster jailed

A man behind a string of parking-meter scams has been jailed.

Prosecutors in Lucerne say a 45-year-old man placed at least 48 fake Twint QR-code stickers on meters in Lucerne, Bern, and Lausanne between late 2024 and spring of this year.

When drivers scanned them, they were taken to a convincing fake payment site that harvested their credit-card data.

Authorities say the scheme netted about CHF 9,500, which the man used for cash withdrawals and cryptocurrency cards.

In addition to jail time the man has to pay thousands in costs and fines.
