The government is considering issuing tasers to the transport police.
The motion was proposed by a People’s Party national councillor, Michael Buffat.
He says tasers will give police more flexibility to tackle increasing violence on public transport.
Swiss Federal Railways says it backs the move.
Transport police are already armed with a hand gun and pepper spray.
Other forces across the country already use tasers. They’re used between 6 and 15 times a year on average.
