In Geneva, authorities are keeping a close eye on alcohol sales to minors.
This year, the Consumer Affairs Service carried out test purchases across the canton to check whether shops respect the ban on selling spirits to under-18s – or beer and wine to under-16s.
The result: in 14 percent of cases, alcohol was sold illegally. That’s considered very high.
Inspectors tested nearly 200 purchases, mainly spirits like vodka and Martini, in both city neighborhoods and suburban areas.
Health officials and say the figures show inspections remain very necessary.
