Three soldiers have been injured after their tank crashed into the Aare River in canton Bern.
The armoured vehicle, the American made M113, weighing several tonnes, rolled down an embankment and overturned, according to witnesses.
It took several rescue teams to free the men, including firefighters, cranes and a helicopter.
Anti-pollution teams were also brought in to protect the water way.
The army is conducting an investigation.
