Police in canton Vaud say more than 7,000 motorists were caught speeding in the canton over the Ascension holiday.
That’s around double the normal amount.
While most infractions were fairly minor – some stood out.
One driver was caught at 178 kph when the limit was 100 and another at over 200 kph in a 120 zone.
Off the autoroute, one driver was caught at 120 while passing through the town of Mézières when the limit was 50.
Those drivers will be prosecuted under the strict ‘Via Sicura’ law – that will mean a lengthy suspension or even jail time.
