Swiss researchers are working to slow down the effects of aging.
Scientists at the Universities of Bern and Geneva and the Bern Inselspital have figured out why some organs age faster than others.
They believe it’s down to uneven DNA error controls when cells divide.
The rate of cell division is different in various organs. In those where there is little division, fewer DNA checks are made which lead to more errors and aging.
The research has been published in the scientific journal ‘Cell’. It’s hoped it could lead to better treatment against the effects of aging.
